Google Colab MCP Server

An open-source Model Context Protocol server that lets AI agents directly control Google Colab notebooks with GPU access.

Google just released an MCP server for Colab that changes how AI agents work with cloud compute. Instead of just generating code snippets, agents can now create, modify, and execute Python code directly in Colab notebooks.

The Model Context Protocol integration means any MCP-compatible AI agent can programmatically access Colab’s infrastructure. That includes the free GPU runtimes, which suddenly makes cloud compute accessible to local AI workflows without hefty API costs.

We’re particularly interested in the implications for data science workflows. Agents can now spin up notebooks, install packages, run training jobs, and handle the entire ML pipeline autonomously. The protocol handles authentication and session management, so agents don’t need special Colab integration.

This feels like a significant shift from AI tools that just write code to ones that actually execute and iterate on it. Worth testing if you’re building agents that need serious compute power.
