Google Colab CLI

Google released a command-line interface for Colab that bridges local development with remote GPU and TPU compute. The CLI lets you run Python scripts from your terminal whilst the actual execution happens on Colab’s cloud hardware.

This solves a real pain point. Before this, you had to copy code into Colab notebooks or set up complex SSH tunnels to access decent compute. Now you can keep your local workflow and development environment whilst tapping into Google’s hardware when needed.

The tool also works with AI agents, which is particularly clever. Agents can now programmatically request GPU compute for training or inference tasks without human intervention. This could make autonomous AI development workflows much more practical.

We’re curious how this performs compared to other remote compute solutions like Modal or Runpod. The integration with Colab’s existing ecosystem is appealing, especially if you’re already using Google’s AI tools.
